Speaking to Sky Sports following last night’s 4-0 win over Coventry in the 4th round of the FA Cup Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger describe talk of the Gunners signing Schalke winger Julian Draxler as an “illusion.”

Wenger insisted that he had more than enough wingers at the club asking the question why would he want to sign Draxler.

“That is an illusion. There is nothing happening, honestly no,” Wenger said. “We don’t need to take players on the flanks – we have 17 players on the flanks.”

Wenger was also critical over the deal that will see Juan Mata join Manchester United from Chelsea for £37 million suggesting the transfer was unfair as Arsenal still had to play Manchester United, and Chelsea did not saying: “Look at Christmas and you tell me who had the best fixtures.

“We played on Sunday against Everton, on Wednesday in Naples and on Saturday morning at Man City. So we do have not the same assessment on that front.

“What I said was not a complaint, it has nothing to do with Chelsea. It was just a suggestion of ‘do you think it is right or wrong’.

“Everybody is free in life to have his opinion about people. I never speak about people. I speak about facts and ideas. Never about people.”

Back on the Draxler front the Daily Telegraph is reporting sources in Germany as saying that a £36 million deal has been agreed upon by both clubs and that negotiations are underway with the player.
