The Daily Mirror is this morning reporting that Manchester United has put a bid in of £22.5 million for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw.

The 18-year-old Shaw has impressed everyone since his premier League debit and is seen by Manchester United as a long term replacement for Patrice Evra

The 18-year-old has been superb since making the step up to the Premier League, and is seen as a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has topped the £21 million offer Chelsea had made and is hopeful that negotiations can start this weekend.

With Patrice Evra in the final months of his contract Moyes wants to get Shaw in now by being able to offer him first team football, while Chelsea still needs to sort out the future of Ashley Cole.

Following on from the club record signing of Chelsea’s Juan Mata for £37 million it would appear that the re-building process at United has begun.
