WIGAN have brought fan favourite Paul Scharner back in on loan from Hamburg for the rest of the season.

Scharner spent more than four years at the DW Stadium before leaving for West Brom in the summer of 2010.

The Austrian then moved to Germany in the summer, but has been drafted in by Wigan manager Roberto Martinez to play at centre-back.

Scharner, 32, said: “It really is fantastic to be back.

“Wigan will always have a big place in my heart, so to be asked to come back and help the team now is something really special for me.”
