Arsenal are bracing themselves for a late bid for Liverpool target Chuba Akpom according to the Daily Star with struggling championship side Wigan Athletic looking to take the 19-year-old on loan.

Akpom is out of contract in the summer with suggestions that Liverpool will come in with a bid for him.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger however sees the striker future at the Emirates and is confident that the youngster will sign a new contract with the club.

Akpom came off the bench yesterday to take part in the 5-0 rout of Aston Villa, and was instrumental in winning a penalty for the Gunners after having been brought down by Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan.

Wenger meanwhile hinted that it would be a quiet deadline day for him saying:”‎I don’t think I’ll be busy. We’ve done what we wanted unless there’s a huge surprise and somebody calls. Not a journalist, an agent. Still, why not? But at the moment, it’s quiet.

“My job is about selection and sometimes no matter who you select you can be wrong but you can be right as well when you have the quality. All the players have the quality to play.”
