Sky Sports: Barcelona star player Lionel Messi returned to football last night scoring two goals to sweep aside Getafe in the first leg of their Copa Del Rey tie.

The four time player of the year said that he is looking forward to 2014 after being out injured since November.

“I had a lot of time out and I felt very good in the training sessions that I had, but playing in a competitive game in completely different,” he told Barca TV.

“More than the goals, I feel very good physically and I have been able to play without any pain so I am obviously very happy.”

Messi underwent his first stage of recovery in Barcelona before traveling to Argentina for further recuperation in December.

The eyes of the football world will be on the 26-year-old over the coming months as he leads Barcelona’s campaign to win three trophies’ and also leads Argentina into next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

After spending months out Messi says that he is just happy to be playing football again.

“I am very happy. I was able to spend a lot of time in my country with my family and friends and to get away from everything.

“But now I am back I am excited and desperate to have a great year.

“I want to keep achieving things, to contribute to our play, help my team-mates and hopefully we can achieve our objectives.

“They will be five very tough months, but we will fight to win everything, as we always do at this club, and then I can think about the national team.”

Next up for Messi will be a crucial top of the table clash with joint leaders Atletico Madrid at the Vincente Calderon on Saturday which could set the precedence of who will win La Liga this season.
