This morning, Spanish media outlet ‘Sport‘ are reported that both Barcelona and Real Madrid are going to battle it out this summer to sign Brazilian wonderkid, Vincius Junior.
Junior who is only 16 years old is reportedly already talking to English giants Manchester United who like Real Madrid and Barcelona have been impressed by the 16 year old’s performances for the Brazil Under 17’s national team at the South American Under 17 Championships where the Brazilian finished the tournament as top scorer.
Whilst the rumours today focus on the Brazilian potentially moving to one of Spain’s top 2 – Real Madrid or Barcelona – Kleber Leite former president of the club where Junior currently plays – Flamengo, revealed last month that the club has already had talks with Manchester United over potentially signing the wonderkid although it is not confirmed if the English club will be pursuing their interest.
Recalling a conversation between Manchester United and Flamengo general director Fred Luz, Leite told the Independent: “[Luz] told me that he was contacted a while ago by a representative of Manchester United, who wanted to discuss the possibility of them having priority for a transfer.
“The talks didn’t get far, because Fred Luz told them plainly that future discussions would depend on the immediate payment of a sum that would give them priority among offers of equal value.
“At that point, the Englishman, who thought it was going to be a piece of cake, left and didn’t return.”
United may regret not closing the deal with Flamengo last month with Real and Barcelona now hot on the heels of the 17 year old – surely the Brazilian will favour a move to Spain – given the cold English climate and language barriers he will face.
