Jay Rodriguez, Liverpool

Liverpool is lining up a stunning move for Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez following the resignation of club chairman Nicola Cortese last night.

Saints manager Argentinean Mauricio Pochettino said last summer when the Southampton owner Katharina Liebherr tried to force Cortese out that if the Swiss/Italian chairman left the club that he would follow him out the door.

Speculation at the club this morning is rife that Mauricio Pochettino could very well follow up on his threat and leave the club.

The Saints boss will be holding a press conference this afternoon at 3pm GMT where he will make known his intentions.

Meanwhile Liverpool are poised to take advantage of the turmoil down on the south coast knowing that should Pochettino also leave it could lead to an exodus of players as well including Rodriguez according to the Daily Star.

24-year-old Rodriguez was called up for the England squad last November, and has scored eight goals in 18 appearances this season for the Saints attracting the attention of Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

Southampton signed Rodriguez from Burnley for £7 million back in 2012 and would certainly fit in with Liverpool’s policy of buying young talent.
