Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is due to hold talks with owner John W. Henry on Friday after the American fly’s in from Boston to watch Liverpool’s home game against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The belief is that Rodgers wants to sign a left-back, midfielder and a striker during the January transfer window in order to bolster the squad for that all important Champions League finish.

The Reds have their best chance to achieve a top four finish in years, and Rodgers knows that a few signings that could hit the ground running might give Liverpool what they need to achieve their goal.

Failure to qualify for the Champions League would allow other clubs such as Real Madrid to come in and try to entice Luis Suarez to leave something neither Rodgers nor Henry would want.

Often in the past it has appeared as if Liverpool has tried to pick up players on the cheap, and while I do not expect to see them spend like Manchester City or Paris-Saint-Germain I would hope that Henry will make the funds available for Rodgers to bring in the players he needs to get the job done.

My personal feeling is that he will get the players, but that they will not be any big name stars but players for now rather than the future and once a Champions League spot is obtained Liverpool will in the summer go after that marquee signing that eluded them last summer.
