Mark Hughes is fighting for his job again just hours before he takes his QPR team north to Manchester United.

Hughes’ position was so delicate the club were even considering firing him before they headed to Old Trafford for a game few give them a chance of winning.

Ex-Manchester United striker Hughes has been planning his team for the game and expects to be on the touchline.

Hughes is well aware he is fighting for his job and has been left in no uncertain terms there is a lack of faith in him in the boardroom. Chairman Tony Fernandes gave an interview to US TV station Bloomberg and would not back Hughes.

The obvious option is Harry Redknapp and he would be prepared to step in immediately.

Hughes has been walking a tightrope since QPR lost at Arsenal on October 27. Fernandes was set to sack him then but had a change of heart and has tried to support him.

They have not won all season but have an easier run of fixtures coming – and a new manager will be licking his lips at that prospect.
