Former Arsenal player Carlos Vela had been expected to make a return to the Emirates for next season, but news out of Spain is telling us that he has signed a new contract with Real Sociedad.

Earlier the Daily Express had reported that Arsenal had triggered a £3.2million buyback clause that was in the 25-year-olds contract which was confirmed by club president Jokin Aperribay making everyone believe that the Mexican striker was on his way back to north London.

His teammate and also Arsenal transfer target French international Antoine Griezmann has said that Vela has now signed a new contract with Real Sociedad, and that he was looking forward to doing the same telling ESPN Mexico:

“I’m talking to you in Spanish because of Carlos. He’s a top player, there’s no-one better. We have a great relationship on and off the pitch because we’re good friends.

“He’s relaxed. He’s already signed a new contract and he’s looking happy.

“I don’t know where my future lies yet. Hopefully I’ll be able to stay, but we’ll have to see what happens.”
