Radio Marte the official radio station of Napoli has announced that a deal worth£49.3 million has been done for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani.

In a statement issued late last night on Radio Marte they said: ‘We have received news in the office from a very reliable source that Napoli has sealed a deal with Chelsea for Cavani’s sale.

Hot shot: Chelsea appear to be in pole position to sign Edinson Cavani

‘Rafa Benitez also gave the all-clear, but before making the move official Napoli wants to secure the striker who will replace Il Matador.

‘Aurelio De Laurentiis’ club will pick up around €58m, a slight discount on the buy-out clause, which is the same situation as Ezequiel Lavezzi to PSG last year.

‘The player will earn €8.5m per season plus image rights.’

As this news was breaking there were also reports that Manchester United had entered the race for the Uruguayan despite the Chelsea move and reports that were out last week suggesting that he would prefer Real Madrid to the Premiership.

Stay tunes on this move to Chelsea, as in the past they have tried to offer players plus cash, and have seemed reluctant to match Napoli’s full asking price.

Even Cavani’s agent Claudio Anellucci has cast shadows on a deal being done saying: ‘There is nothing closed with Chelsea.’
