According to reports Manchester United are set to join the race for Edison Cavani and bid £50million for the Napoli forward.

David Moyes wants to continue Sir Alex Ferguson’s trend of having four forwards at the club and with Wayne Rooney’s future still up in the air, he’s confident he has found his replacement.

Manchester City, Real Madrid and Chelsea have all been heavily linked with the Uruguayan, however United and Cavani have never been mentioned in the same sentence until now.

Cavani himself is known to favour a move to Real, however the Spanish giants have many transfer targets this summer and may miss out on him.

Of the sides linked with him, only Manchester United can hold a torch next to Real so if it’s stature he is after, then United are next in line.

Napoli have made a defiant stance on Cavani this summer, stating they will only sell him if club’s meet the player’s buy out clause of £54million.

The fee has put of Manchester City, who are believed the be looking elsewhere now.

Rooney future

The move for Cavani means Rooney’s future at Old Trafford is looking bleak.

After handing in his second transfer request in three years, Rooney had look certain to leave. In recent weeks though, positive vibes were coming from Manchester United that he may stay, however the possible arrival of Cavani means one centre forward would have to go.

Barcelona are the latest club to be linked with the Englishman and would be willing to bid £25million to bring him to the Nou Camp.
