Russian giants Zenit St. Petersburg are set to gazump Napoli and re-sign Slovakian centre-half Martin Skrtel from Liverpool.

If these reports are true it is not only Luis Suarez that will be leaving Anfield this summer as manager Brendan Rodgers looks to rebuild a team with younger players.

Napoli looked to be the place Skrtel was heading for in the wake of fellow Liverpool teammate Pepe Reina where he would also be reunited with the man who signed him for Liverpool Rafa Benitez.

Rumours overnight suggest that Zenit a club not short of cash are the front runners in the race to sign the Slovak international.

Originally signed by Liverpool from Zenit back in 2008 from Zenit, Skrtel played 113 games for the Russians 2004-2008
