Brazilian wonder kid Lucas Piazon, has expressed his frustration at not being given a chance to earn a spot in the starting eleven at Chelsea football club, and has expressed his desire to make his loan move to Frankfurt permanent.

Piazon 20-years old, joined the blues in 2011 from Brazil’s Sao Paulo and since then has been out on loan two different times, first at Malaga in Spain and the following year at Vitesse in the Netherlands.

Despite being at Chelsea for close to 4years, has only made one appearance in the league as a substitute. He is dissatisfied with the situation, and obviously hopes for a permanent move away.

“I could stay a Frankfurt. Chelsea has so many good players and currently it is difficult for me to find a place. Next week I pull out of the hotel and move into my apartment and tomorrow my language course will begin”

His words make it clear that he is disenchanted with life at the Bridge.

So whose fault is it that things disintegrated this badly, the player or the club?

First of all, one thing to look at is Chelsea’s unwillingness to integrate players that have shown the potential, but lack the actual ability to be able to play for a top club.

It is clear from their dealings in the transfer market that Chelsea has used the loan system unlike Arsenal, as a money making machine instead of as a tool to blend potentially first team players into the team.

Potential has never been something the London club has ever been interested in. When the Russian billionaire took over the running of the club, it became by his design, a success first outfit.

It is clear that a club that purchases young players like Hazard, Willian, Salah and Oscar while already having even younger players such as McEachran, Kakuta and Piazon out on loan isn’t leaving any space for anyone to fill.

The motto for the blues seems to be; prove you should be an undisputed starter or we’ll sell you off to finance moves for players who are.

A good example is Thibaut Courtois who proved he was the second best goalkeeper in the world.

This led to Chelsea unceremoniously benching Petr Cech, who was one of the club’s biggest legends.

Contrast this with the case of the highly touted prospect Romelu Lukaku who thought because he could start games for Westbrom and Everton, he could start for Chelsea.

Making comparisons between Thibaut and Romelu is unwise, as one has proven himself by winning the Spanish league, Europa League, reaching the champions league final and even being awarded best goalkeeper in Spain twice in a row.

One of them proved, he is at the highest level, while the other couldn’t even get Everton into the Champions League and despite not being better than Diego Costa, wanted a starting role at the club.

The conclusion here is simple.

Chelsea is an unsentimental club. If a player is good enough to beat anyone in the team’s starting eleven, of course he’ll play.

Why shouldn’t Chelsea demand only the best players?

They are one of the biggest clubs in world football.

When players like Demba Ba, Salah and Van Ginkel go from being the best players on their former teams to bench warmers at Chelsea there is a reason for this.

In conclusion even though Piazon may have good potential, it is not enough.

Potential doesn’t play football, present ability does. There’s a reason Arsenal went without winning a trophy for 9 years.
