As new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal takes on the task of rebuilding a team based on his previous experience in Holland and while in Barcelona and Bayern Munich it is becoming apparent to everyone watching that United is starting to take on a slightly orange tint as van Gaal introduces more Dutch players into the team.

Next on the 63-year-olds hit list appears to be AC Roma’s Kevin Strootman with Tom Hopkinson in the Sunday People writing that he is prepared to offer Juan Mata as a partial payment.

Meanwhile Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini said last week that Strootman was not for sale, but that will not put off van Gaal who is a big fan of the 24-year-old having worked with him on the Netherlands national team and thinks that by offering Mata as bait Sabatini may change his mind.

At the moment Mata does not appear to fit in with van Gaal’s plans, and even if he was not to go to Roma would be available for around £20 million, a price Juventus may be willing to pay should they make it to the last 16 of the Champions League.

David Moyes paid £37 million to Chelsea for Spaniard Mata back in January, and now United appear ready to make a substantial loss on the 26-year-old midfielder.
