In what could be bad news for Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers  British sport radio station TalkSport is saying that Russian newspaper Izvestia is running a story that suggests Zenit St. Petersburg have emerged as genuine contenders to sign Egyptian international Mohamed Salah.

The report in Russia says that Zenit coach Luciano Spalletti is ready to pay £12 million for the forward in an attempt to gazump Liverpool for his signature as Basel sit back waiting to cash in.

After having missed out on a number of targets during the summer Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will have his work cut out to get the 21-year-old to sign for the Reds, but has the clubs steep history and their current run of form on his side.
