Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has blown off suggestions that this will be Luis Suarez’s last season at Anfield.

During the summer there was almost constant speculation that the Uruguayan striker would be leaving Liverpool following comments from Suarez himself when he told the press back in his hometown of Montevideo that he felt victimised in England and that no matter what he did or said he would always be the bad guy.

He then used the excuse that he wanted to be playing with all the worlds other top players in the Champions League, something that was not available to him at Liverpool.

The Merseyside club stood fast in their reluctance to sell their star player turning down two bids from Arsenal, and could well have their resolve tested again in the New Year following the strikers very impressive start since coming back from suspension that has seen him score six goals in five matches, including a stunning hat-trick against West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has shrugged off talk that this could be Luis Suarez’s final season at Anfield saying: “No, I wouldn’t say that,” insisted Rodgers. “I think he, like ourselves, wants to be at the very highest level he can be.

“And you can see by his performances he deserves to be looking at that level.

“But it also shows he has been excellent in his attitude, you see his work rate – that is the key.”

Rodgers added: “For me, this is the place for Luis. I still maintain that even if we were in mid-table this would be the place for him to be because this is a massive club – a global institution.

“But as a football club and as a team we are growing – and he can grow with us. Luis has the support of everyone at the club and the love of everyone and because this is a worldwide institution, there is no better place for him to grow.

“When a player is happy and working well you get a performance like you did [against West Brom].”
