Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has said that his success so far this season is down to advice that his former Chelsea teammate Didier Drogba gave him during the pre-season.

The in-form Liverpool ace continued his goal scoring at the weekend with an absolutely text book lob over the West Brom keeper Boaz Myhill  during the Reds 4-1 win at Anfield for his tenth goal of the season.

Sturridge told the Sunday Times that much of his success was down to advice he received during the summer from Didier Drogba saying: “I saw Didier in Miami this summer.

“He said the strongest thing an individual can have is the mental strength.

“He told me, ‘It’s not about the tactical, it’s not about the technical, it’s not about the physical. If you believe in yourself, that will set you apart.”

While at Chelsea the now 24-year-old Sturridge was marginalized often being made to play in wide positions , but since his move to Merseyside manager Brendan Rodgers  who knew the youngster from his days as a coach at Stamford Bridge has turned Sturridge into an all-out striker which has also guaranteed him a starting spot in the England team.

Sturridge also feels that it is not only England manager Roy Hodgsons belief in him but also Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard that has helped saying: “Stevie has helped me a lot in terms of mind-set.

“He’s all about self-belief; don’t go out there with the mentality of trying to do something. Just let it happen.”
