Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes that the Gunners, and in particular Mesut Özil put in a fantastic display beating Napoli last night in the Champions League.

Arsenal have been in great for of late racking up ten straight wins, but knew they would face a tough game against the Italian league leaders.

Wenger had told the team that they needed to start the match at a fast pace, and they did scoring twice in the opening 15 minutes through German international Özil and his French counterpart Oliver Giroud to put the game out of Napoli’s reach.

The Arsenal boss said after the game that he could not have asked more from his team who are at the moment full of confidence.

When asked by Sky Sports if that was Arsenals best game so far this season the Frenchman said: “I think so, especially in the first half. I felt that we played at a good pace technically, were direct and finished with great goals.

“Overall the first half was outstanding. Second half, we played more with more maturity, less drive going forward and a bit more caution. But overall it was an outstanding game.”

The Arsenal manager was full of praise for Özil after having scored his first goal for the Gunners since the big money move from Real Madrid.

He added: “First half, absolutely amazing, fantastic. Everything was in there – collective skill, individual skill, finishing, all that you dream to see.

“When it takes too long to score it is always on your mind a little bit, so he got rid of that.

“I loved him when he was at Madrid, I thought he was great there. We are lucky to have got him.

“He enjoys playing football and enjoys playing with his team-mates – he’s integrated very quickly.”

Arsenal are now the only team in Group F to have 100% record, but Wenger knows they cannot rest yet as they still have to play two matches against last season’s beaten finalist Borussia Dortmund.

Asked about what he thought to their start Wenger said: “Very good, we cannot start better.

“Of course the next two will be deciders and that’s why we want to come back after the international break and have another game like that against Dortmund.”
