Liverpool will this week make a formal bid for Basel attacking midfielder Mohamed Salah according to reports in the Daily Telegraph.

The Reds had approached Basel over the 21-year-old Egyptian international but balked at the Swiss side’s £12 million valuation of the player.

Following their 2-2 draw with Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday, and Brendan Rodgers being able to see  how former left-back target Ryan Bertrand has fitted in at Villa the Northern Irishman has convinced the owners that he needs to bring in a few players this month if Liverpool are to have a hope of finishing in the top-four.

Watch out in the coming days for the possible addition of a defensive midfielder, a left-back and another attacking midfielder.
