Liverpool will face stiff competition for the out of favour Argentinean midfielder Javier Pastore as Roma and Lyon increase their interest in the 24-year-old playmaker.

Liverpool manager was trying to sign a similar player to Pastore during the summer, but failed in his attempts to land Henrikh Mkhitarya and Willian who signed for Dortmund and Chelsea respectively.

Eager to ensure a top four finish for the Reds, Rodgers will be looking for two or three players in January that can hit the ground running and bring Liverpool the European football they have been missing.

Reports in Italy are saying that representatives from Roma have already met with Pastore to discuss terms, but he could also remain playing in Frances top league should Lyon decide to make a move.
