Liverpool, Benfica

It would appear as if Liverpool has now conceded that they have lost out on the signature of Basel winger Mohamed Salah, and are wasting no time with just a few days remaining in the transfer window to bring in reinforcements to help in their challenge for a top-four finish.

Another name that has emerged as a possible midfield candidate is that of Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes according to the Sunday Times newspaper.

While Salah was looked upon as an attacking midfield option, since the injury to Lucas Leiva in the match against Stoke and Captain Steven Gerrard’s dismal performance as a defensive midfielder in the following match at home to Aston Villa Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has now switched his attention to a holding midfielder being a priority January signing.

20-year-old Portuguese U-21 international  Andre Gomes who plays for Benfica certainly would have an appeal for the Liverpool boss yet Benfica may be reluctant to sell following the sale of Nemanja Matic to Chelsea just a few days ago.

Have a look at Gomes in action and see if you think he would fit in at Liverpool.
