Saul Niguez, Liverpool

As it appears that Liverpool  has failed in trying to sign Basel’s Egyptian international winger Mohamed Salah the Reds have now turned their attention to  Saul Niguez according to an article in today’s Sunday People who claim that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has held a secret meeting on Merseyside with the Atletico Madrid midfielders father.

The rumour is that Rodgers will make a final decision today after sending a delegation from Anfield to watch the Spanish U-21 star play for Rayo Vallecano where he is currently on loan against his parent club Atletico Madrid.

Having missed out on Salah and not knowing the length of Lucas Leiva’s time out for the injury he sustained against Stoke Rodgers finds himself light in midfield options.

Rodgers is also aware that Arsenal has met with Saul’s father and that both Chelsea and Manchester United remain interested as well yet on this occasion the Liverpool boss has an ace he can play that the others will not offer, and that is the chance to play first team football straight away as the Reds challenge for a top four finish.

Liverpool fans might feel that he is perhaps a little young to jump straight into the first team at only 19-year-old yet he has the defensive midfield qualities that Liverpool need right now and he would certainly fit in with the plans Rodgers has for the future.

Atletico value the player at £20 million, but it is thought that an offer of £12 million for a player they currently have on loan would be seriously considered.
