The Daily Express is reporting this morning that Liverpool has been in contact with Russian side Spartak Moscow over their Brazilian midfielder Romulo.

Following the injury to Lucas Leiva during the match with Aston Villa, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is now actively looking for a defensive midfielder and despite the earlier interest in AC Milan’s Nigel De Jong it appears that Romulo is Rodgers preferred choice.

Rodgers has been quick to remove himself from speculation over the 23-year-old yet reports coming out of Russia suggest that Liverpool have already made a bid thought to be around £7 million with Spartak said to be holding out for £10 million.

The Russians preference would be for Romulo to remain in Moscow after having just been out for nearly 18 months with a knee injury.

The defensive midfielder joined Spartak from Brazilian side Vasco De Gama in 2012 for £6.5 million and has been capped by Brazil eight times.
