According to Italian newspaper Tutto Sport Liverpool’s Slovakian defender Martin Skrtel is on his way to Napoli where he will join up with former Reds manager Rafa Benitez and on loan Liverpool teammate Pepe Reina.

Skrtel has featured in Liverpool’s pre-season friendlies, but found himself sitting on the bench during the latter half of last season, and now that Liverpool have signed Kolo Toure it could be a sign that Liverpool are willing to let Skrtel leave.

Tutto Sport have said that it will be a season long loan with an option to buy with the 28-year-old moving to Napoli in a deal similar to that done for Reina.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is currently rebuilding a much younger team, and is desperate to find some quality young defenders for the right price both Skrtel and Agger could be on the way out but first the Northern Irishman needs to find replacements.

At Napoli Skrtel will pair up with fellow new signing Raul Albiol and pair up as the Italians two centre-backs.

Not only would this be a positive move for Skrtel as he will be playing for a team that will be challenging for the Italian title, Napoli are also involved in the Champions League something that Liverpool are not.
