According to the Daily Star newspaper Arsenal and Liverpool are involved in talks with Belgium club Anderlecht over Senegalese defender Cheikhou Kouyate.

The 24-year-old has spoken in the past of his desire to play in England, and has been told by Anderlecht that he could leave in January.

Kouyate’s agent Saffet Balkan has been quoted as saying both Arsenal and Liverpool are in talks over a permanent move.

Balkan said: “I have been in talks with representatives from Liverpool and Arsenal over Cheikhou Kouyate.

“Arsenal are very interested in Kouyate. It’s very likely that he’ll be joining a Premier League club soon.”

It was the defenders performance during the 2012 Olympics’ that caught Wengers attention, but at the time the Gunners were unable to secure a work permit.

Now however he has a Belgium passport which opens the door to either Anfield or the Emirates.
