Blues boss Jose Mourinho complimented his Chelsea side, and predicted that they would now move on to the knockout stage of the Champions League after downing Steaua Bucharest 4-0 last night in Romania.

Before the match Mourinho had said that the Blues needed a win following their unexpected loss to Basel at home in their first Champions’ League Group E match of the season.

Two goals were provided by Ramieres, along with an own goal by Daniel Georgievski and a late strike from veteran Frank Lampard to give Chelsea an historic away win.

“I think we are going to qualify,” Mourinho told Sky Sports. “Today’s result is important because if we don’t win we are under pressure.

“We have to control the situation and make points against Schalke and then beat Basel and Steaua.”

Andre Schurrle was singled out for praise by the Portuguese coach after putting in his best performance for Chelsea since his move from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

“The result is very good. The points and the goals also,” he said.

“From the first minute it was very good. From the first minute we kept control of the game. We played good football with intelligence and maturity.

“We needed to clean what we did at home (against Basel) and we did it with a good result and performance.

“Now we are not in a dramatic situation, we are in a close situation.”

Spanish striker Fernando Torres left the game after only 11 minutes with a knee problem that boss Mourinho will hope is not too serious, after already losing Marco van Ginkel.

“We have to wait for tomorrow for a scan,” he said. “I hope it is not dramatic like Van Ginkel.
