JACK WILSHERE will take the next step towards his Arsenal return tomorrow with a behind-closed-doors friendly against Chelsea.

The under-21 fixture has been arranged to speed up the midfielder’s comeback from the crocked ankle which has kept him out for nearly 16 months.

Wilshere, 20, has had two run-outs and is expected to play at least 75 minutes at the Gunners’ training ground.

The plan then would be for a full game against Everton’s youngsters on Monday with a potential first-team return in the Capital One Cup clash with Reading in two weeks.

A place on the bench for the Champions League game against Schalke next week has not been ruled out, either.

Bacary Sagna and Emmanuel Frimpong, both on the mend after long-term injuries, are also in line to play tomorrow.

The pair are closer to first-team comebacks than Wilshere and could be in the squad to travel to Norwich on Saturday.
