Italian Serie A side Inter Milan could offer unsettled Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen a way out in January according to reports coming out of Italy.

The Arsenal captain has found it impossible to be manager Arsene Wenger’s main choice defensively and has been unable to break up the growing partnership between Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, and last week said that he would have to start considering his options.

With a World Cup looming next summer in Brazil the Belgium international knows that he needs to be playing first team football to ensure his place in the Belgium team.

Inter Milan meanwhile need to do something with their defence after conceding six goals in their last two games which has got Inter manager Walter Mazzarri following the situation at the Emirates with Vermaelen very closely.

Inter who share the San Siro stadium with AC Milan were recently bought by Indonesian billionaire Erik Thohir and are expected to go to the transfer market in a big way this January as Thohir looks to stamp his mark on the club.
