Liverpool could once again do as they did with Daniel Sturridge find an excellent player who just cannot seem to find his way into his current clubs first team.

Manchester City’s John Guidetti has been struggling with injuries and illness for the past 18 months, but is now fully fit after having undergone knee surgery in the summer.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has warned the young Swede that he faces an uphill battle to get a place in the City first team which has prompted speculation that he will now be looking for a move in January.

French club Monaco and Turkeys Trabzonspor are said to be interested in signing the 21-year-old, but it is Liverpool who are the front runners with Guidetti known to prefer staying in the Premier League.

Liverpool have been following the City player since his loan spell at Feyenoord in 2012 where he scored an amazing 20 goals in 23 games to become a fan favourite before an unusual virus attacked his central nervous system.

Guidetti still has 18 months left on his contract with City, and would probably be let go for around £5 million.

Rodgers made two very impressive buys for Liverpool last January in Sturridge and Coutinho, and providing the young Swedish international if fully recovered could prove to be yet another shrewd but for the Northern Irishman.
