The San Siro club were hit with the tiny penalty after supporters sang vile chants about Balotelli during Sunday’s match against Chievo.

Italy striker Balotelli has scored three goals in two games since joining rivals AC Milan from Manchester City last month.

A Serie A statement said: “A fine of £12,900 has been issued to Inter Milan for having supporters who, in the 41st minute of the first half and the 42nd minute of the second half, directed expressions of racial discrimination to the player of another club.”

Inter president Massimo Moratti apologised — and pleaded with fans to behave themselves in this month’s derby.

He added: “I was told about it because I couldn’t make out clearly what they were saying. I’m very sorry about that.

“I’m very sorry and I really hope it doesn’t happen during the derby.”
