Falcao revealed how stronger Los Rojiblancos’ outfit have become over the past 12 months with the 42-year-old at the helm.

“We have improved a lot, we have strengthened as a team and as a group,” Falcao said.

“Passing a year together has helped us to know and also adapt to the ideas the coach has, and especially to assimilate his passion for the sport that has helped us greatly improve,” he said.

The Europa League holders got off to a great start in Group B by running out 3-0 winners away to Hapoel Tel Aviv with the 26-year-old being rested for the trip to the Bloomfield stadium.

Although much has been said about the rigours of the Europa League and about the commitment of some of the teams involved in the competition, there can be no doubt about Falcao’s desire to regain the title and finish top of the scoring charts again as he said: “The ambition of wanting to win and the desire to be a key player in this competition allowed Atletico to win last year.”

Falcao excelled in his side’s 4-1 demolition of Champions League winners Chelsea in the Super Cup, scoring a hat-trick and the Colombian sharp shooter believes this is the best way to help Atleti.

He added: “Every game I try to give the best, enjoy and contribute to the team in the best way. And what better way than scoring goals.”
