EL TIGRE’ FIGHTING FOR ‘BRONZE SHOE’ AND PERSONAL RECORDS

By Luis Aznar

Radamel Falcao does not care much for Barcelona’s status. Whether it is the champion or just another contender is all the same to him. The only thing on his mind is the back of Pinto’s net and a win for Atlético. The last few weeks have not been easy for ‘El Tigre’, enveloped in dozens of rumours linking him with all sorts of clubs in a matter of months. However, after securing his current club’s return to Champions League football next year, he is now fully immersed in his personal crusade to beat his own goalscoring records.

He always says so. He sets himself targets and aims to achieve them. The next one on his list is to surpass the 36 goals which he scored last season donning the red and white shirt. And he is not far off. He has scored 33 goals in all competitions and still has four competitive games left – three in the league and Friday’s cup final – to smash his personal best as an Atlético player.

Falcao’s excellent scoring form is also reflected in his battle for third place in the European Golden Shoe award – another of the Colombian striker’s objectives between now and the end of the season. Given that the top two spots have already gone to Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo with some unobtainable figures for the rest of the players, Falcao is looking to swipe third place.

The Colombian target man is taking the battle to his fellow countryman Jackson Martínez at Porto, as well as Van Persie at Manchester United and Kiesling at Bayer Leverkusen.
