Chelsea’s hopes of signing Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao look to be increasing after the Spanish club revealed how hard they have worked to hold on to him in the past.
In a statement on the club’s official website, sporting director Jose Luis Perez Caminero explained to fans the lengths they have gone to in keeping the Columbian in the Spanish capital.
“You have to appreciate the efforts made by the club, in these times it is difficult to keep a player of his class, you can bet that it was a titanic effort,” Caminero said.
“We have all benefited and we are happy to have one of the best in the world at this club.” said Caminero.
Chelsea are close to finalising a deal that will move Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool and that would create space for Falcao.
The in-form striker has a buyout clause of around £45m and Chelsea are ready to splash the cash after crashing out of the Champions League and falling well behind in the title race.
This season the 26-year-old has hit 17 goals in 16 La Liga games and is now expected to move at the end of the season.
