The Daily Mail is reporting that two Chelsea fans were attacked in an unprovoked attack around an Istanbul bar last night with an eye-witness claiming the assailants were using bottles and knives.

One fan was said to have been stabbed while another was beaten up in Taksim Square neither victim is said to have needed hospitalization following the event.

The incident took place near to where two Leeds United fans were stabbed to death before a UEFA Cup tie back in 2000.

A spokesperson from the Foreign Office said:  ‘We are looking into reports. ’

‘We have had no confirmation of an incident. If confirmed we stand ready to provide consular assistance.’

Meanwhile the Chelsea supporters Group were surprised to hear of the incident saying that the atmosphere in the City ahead of the match was peaceful.

The Chelsea Supporters’ Group expressed surprise at the suggestion of problems facing visiting fans, saying the atmosphere in the city was peaceful.
