Napoli’s own radio station Radio Marte has reported that a deal has been done between the club and Chelsea.

“We have received news in the office from a very reliable source that Napoli has sealed a deal with Chelsea for Cavani’s sale,” the station has announced.

The price of the deal is thought to be £49.3 million which would meet the buyout clause, and if correct be Jose Mourinho’s first signing for Chelsea this summer.

I am unconvinced however, and will wait to hear further news, and to see what Real Madrid have to say about this as both of Cavani’s parents have said that Madrid was their sons preferred destination.

Napoli manager Rafa Benitez when discussing the future of his star player Edinson Cavani with Spanish radio station MARCA said: “Neither me or the president want Cavani to leave because he’s a really important player for us.

“Clearly, there is a clause that you can’t control, but we want him to stay to score many goals and to continue growing with Napoli.

“He found success and fame with this team and he can stay for another year with supporters who love him.

“Napoli don’t need the money. Should he leave, it will be for his clause, and it’s a really high sum.

“But our intention is that he will stay. The president’s intention is to strengthen the team and Cavani is our most important player.

“I don’t know if he has had any offers, but I know there is a clause and anyone who wants him will have to pay it.”
