French international right-back Bacary Sagna is out of contract at the end of the season and is asking for £24 million to sign a new contract.

There is a host of top clubs including all of Arsenal’s top five Premiership title contenders interested in signing the 31-year-old which has made him decide to play hardball with Arsenal and dictate his own terms for a new contract.

All the clubs interested in him are said to be prepared to offer him a contract worth £20 million after tax which would work out to £100,000 per-week with Arsenal only willing to offer him a two-year deal on his current salary of £60,000 per-week.

The Daily Star is reporting this morning that a source close to Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna is saying: “He will leave 100 per cent for sure unless Arsenal wake up in the next couple of months and offer him new good terms.

“It would have to be in the region of £6m a season on a three to four year contract, plus a signing-on fee of around £6m.

“He wants to finish his career at Arsenal as long as the board give him the right deal.”

Arsenal fans may feel as if his approach is wrong holding the club to ransom, yet he feels he has stood by the club never leaving when he could have and that he should be rewarded for his loyal service.
