According to the website Forzza Italian Football Arsenal is in pole position to sign Auxerre attacking midfielder Paul-Georges Ntep ahead of AS Roma who has also showed interest in the 10€ million rated 21-year-old.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport is claiming that Roma’s director of football Walter Sabatini has been following Ntep but is reluctant to meet the price the French Ligue 2 club is asking for him.

Meanwhile Auxerre President Guy Cortet told the local newspaper L’Yonne that he decided to take the initiative after hearing that Arsenal was interested in his midfielder and called Arsene Wenger to see if it was true.

‘Instead of waiting around listening to all these Arsenal rumours and seeing if they would make an offer, I took charge and contacted Arsene Wenger. He assured me that Ntep does not interest him at the moment.’

Despite Wenger’s remarks Cortet said it would be better to wait this next week and see how things develop.

Ntep has made 21 appearances for Auxerre this season and has scored 10 goals while also providing one assist.
