Mesut Özil might have cost the Gunners £42.5 million but he certainly did not look anything like the player we saw glimpses of when he first arrived from Real Madrid last night against Bayern Munich.

The German midfielder suffered a hamstring injury in the 1-1 draw against the Bavarians and will now miss some of Arsenals crucial fixtures starting with the north London derby against Tottenham at the weekend.

Tomas Rosicky replaced Özil at half-time with manager Arsene Wenger commenting on his injury saying: ‘He’s out for a few weeks. It is a hamstring injury and it looks quite serious. I don’t know how long and we hope it’s not so bad.’

During his time on the pitch the young German managed just 22 touches of the ball, a woeful amount if you compare it to Thiago Alcantara who had 66 and Bastian Schweinsteiger who had 47 touches of the ball.

There is definitely something wrong with Oil and it needs to be addressed by Wenger before he ever selects Özil to play for Arsenal again.

We all know that he has talent which is evident in videos of when he played for Real Madrid, but something is going on that we do not know about, and the sooner it is sorted the better otherwise Arsenal have paid a club record price for someone they would be lucky to get half their money back based on the way he is playing right now.

I am only guessing but I cannot imagine it is lack of confidence and we cannot carry on blaming the penalty miss for it either as something is wrong and it needs to get fixed fast.
