David Moyes

Manchester United fans took to twitter yesterday asking why with just minutes remaining in the game new manager David Moyes would take off Wayne Rooney for Chris Smalling.

Rooney provided the ball for Manchester United’s Robin van Persie to give the Red Devils the lead, and just seconds later came close himself hitting the woodwork with an amazing shot.

While it might not have been Rooney’s best of games he did take the pressure off United’s defences by attacking the Southampton goal, and if he was going to be substituted it was a striker that we needing to come on.

With just three minutes left in the match and United up by 1-0 the former Everton manager did what he probably would have done with the Toffee’s by substituting a defender for an attacker hoping to hold on to the one goal lead.

It all backfired on the Scot though as two minutes later Southampton had equalised managing to add to United’s bad start to the season, and turning Old Trafford into a ground teams are no longer afraid to play in.

This was a very unpopular decision in the fans viewpoint, and will further strengthen their thoughts on why David Moyes was the wrong choice to replace Sir Alex Ferguson.
