Vermaelen, Arsenal

Belgium international Thomas Vermaelen has talked with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger about leaving Arsenal in the summer.

The 28-year-old is due to return to training this week after being side-lined with a calf injury, but has been left out of the side for most off the season due to injury and Wenger preferring other options.

In recent weeks there has been plenty of talk about interest coming in from Italian sides Inter Milan and Napoli indicating that perhaps quiet talks have been taking place under the table.

The Daily Express is quoting Vermaelen’s agent Alex Kroes speaking to French paper Le 10 Sport: “Thomas has told Wenger that he wants to leave Arsenal this summer.”

Kroes then goes on to downplay that any move is already in place, but would not go so far as to say his client is staying at Arsenal.

Vermaelen is still expected to be a part of Belgium’s World Cup squad despite only making 11 appearances for Arsenal this season.
