Gunner’s goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny tried to convince his Polish teammate Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski to join Arsenal this coming summer.

Unfortunately for Arsenal fans the 25-year-old striker has decided to stay in the Bundesliga and play for Champions Bayern Munich.

While the Bavarians were always favourites to sign the Polish hit man, Arsenal were known to have been tracking Lewandowski following their Champions League match with the Westphalia team.

While speaking to Polish newspaper Fakt about Szczęsny trying to lure him to London Lewandowski said: “I can confirm that Wojciech tried to convince me to join Arsenal.

“We had several talks about this. It was him who did most of the talking, how the club looks inside, what Arsene Wenger thinks of me.

“When we trained before the Champions League games at Colney, there were important people from Arsenal at our sessions as well.”

Meanwhile another of Arsenal’s target signings Julian Draxler has been persuaded at least for now to stay in Germany with Schalke chairman Clemens Tonnies saying: “It would do Draxler good to spend another year or two with us.

“But we know we’re not going to be able to keep a super-talented player like Julian at Schalke forever.”
