The QPR manager’s move for the Spurs outcast is part of a triple raid on his former club with Redknapp also hoping to snap up midfielders Jermaine Jenas and Andros Townsend.

All three deals are loans until the end of the season and it is the reunion with Bentley, 28, which will raise eyebrows.

Redknapp loaned the one-time England star to West Ham when he was in charge at White Hart Lane but the deal was cut short by a serious knee injury.

Bentley was then shipped out to Russian side FC Rostov last year but now Redknapp wants to give him another shot at the Premier League.

Redknapp has already signed South Korean left-back Yun Suk-Young, 22, from Chunnam Dragons.

And he also hopes to land centre-half Christopher Samba from Russian side Anzhi and Stoke striker Peter Crouch before tonight’s transfer deadline at 11pm.
