QPR manager Harry Redknapp believes Chelsea interim boss Rafael Benitez would have to be “a dope” not to succeed with the squad at his disposal.

The two west London clubs meet on Wednesday evening with the Blues beginning to find form under the former Liverpool chief after an initial spell of disappointing results.

However, Redknapp – whose QPR side sit bottom of the Premier League – has been unimpressed by Chelsea’s upturn in fortunes and has stressed that Benitez should have little difficulty helping the Champions League winners to prosper.

He told West London Sport: “You’d have to be a dope to have messed it up when you’ve got that group of players. He’s a clever guy.

“He’s walked in to a group of players there that are Champions League winners. You’ve got a chance, haven’t you?”

Redknapp also admitted that he is facing a selection dilemma ahead of the clash at Stamford Bridge, after witnessing Benitez’s men hammer Aston Villa 8-0 just over a week ago.

He added: “It’s so difficult. If you open yourself up you can get ripped up like Aston Villa did.

“We’ve got to go there and get a bit of pride back. Whatever else, we’ve got to make sure we’re in the game and are tough to beat.”
