Lukas Podolski, Arsenal

Arsenal’s Lukas Podolski has in the last few weeks rumoured to be leaving the Emirates in the summer, and with all the talk over Arsenal wanting to sign Julian Draxler from Schalke all the news in January, talk of a possible part exchange involving the 28-year-old has been mentioned in the press.

Arsenal sent a delegation to Germany in January to try and sign the 20-year-old, but the Bundesliga club refused to lower their asking price of £32.7 million for the German starlet.

Podolski is a huge fan of the young German, but played down any talk of him moving to Gelsenkirchen to facilitate Draxler’s move to London.

“Every top player is interesting for Arsenal, Draxler is definitely one of them,” the German international, told Bild.

“But what the management are planning, I cannot say. An exchange deal of Podolski for Draxler has been described in some media but it was never an issue. I have contact with Julian, he’s a good boy. But about a switch [to Arsenal] we have not yet spoken.”

Arsenal tonight take on Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena looking to come back from two goals down and while Podolski admits it will be difficult it is not impossible.

“It is not easy, especially not after the 0-2 in the first leg. They are arguably the best club team in the world,” the former Bayern and FC Koln forward continued.

“But the first 15 minutes of the first leg (when Mesut Özil missed a penalty) showed that they can be stopped. We need to put everything into the game, go in with the right aggressiveness and then score.”
