Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini said last night when speaking to the Manchester Evening News that attacking midfielder Marcos Lopes has a bright future ahead of him after helping to book City a place in the Capital One Cup final at Wembley.

City now awaits the winner of tonight’s match between Sunderland and Manchester United to see who they will face in the final.

This also means that this weekend’s Old Trafford derby will now be played later in the season and could have a significant impact on who will win the Premiership title.

After the match Pellegrini spoke of his pride in the team and had special praise for Lopez who provided the assists for Alvaro Negredo and Sergio Agüero.

“Marcos is a young player with a great future,” said the City boss, after the Portuguese youngster had been named as the official man-of-the-match.

“He is just 18 years old and played with the personality he needs to play in our team.

“I see him work every day of the week, so I was sure he would realise the kind of performance he put on last night.

“I’m very happy for him because he deserves to do it – and he is a very important player for the future of the club.”
