The two forwards had a similar argument in Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Granada on 22 September, when Messi showed his anger with Villa for not paying a pass to him earlier.
David Villa and Leo Messi had another on-the-pitch dispute during Barcelona’s 1-2 defeat to Celtic in Parkhead on Wednesday.
The argument took place in the 80th minute, when Celtic were leading 1-0.
Villa and Messi combined to try and pass Celtic’s defensive line on the edge of the area.
Villa decided to go it alone with a quick touch and shot, and the ball was blocked and then cleared.
Messi, next to Villa, had called out for the ball, and was furious when his team-mate did not pass to him.
The Argentine could not hide his anger and made Villa sure he knew of his frustration. In the previous attack, Villa had also decided to shoot rather than pass to Messi.
What was at first glance a simple disagreement turned into a dispute.
With the ball in the stands and with Celtic waiting to take a goal kick, Villa returned to his position and Messi gave a disapproving look to his team mates.
Then Messi gave Villa a stern look which lasted around 20 seconds.
Villa knew his team-mate was angry with him and avoided his glance, but finally looked at him, and Messi gestured to him that he should have made the pass.
Villa responded by indicating he had a chance to shoot.
The conflict, which lasted around 45 seconds, ended once Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster took the goal kick.
Barça Coach Tito Vilanova was asked about the argument in his post-match press conference but said he had not seen it nor had been informed of it.
