Liverpool v Swansea: Match Preview

Liverpool will recall Jordan Henderson to their line-up after the midfielder was rested last Sunday for the FA Cup clash with Arsenal which the Reds lost 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium in London.

The good news for Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is that Glen Johnson is now fit to play so the Northern Irishman will slot him back into the right-back position which will allow Jon Flanagan to move to his more comfortable left-back slot allowing the over-worked Aly Cissokho a well-deserved day off.

Swansea once again have former Liverpool player JonJo Shelvey available after having recovered from a hamstring injury, but Spanish striker Michu will be missing with a long-term ankle injury.

Liverpool come into the match at Anfield with a week off and are now focused on one thing going into the last 12 games of the season after crashing out of the FA Cup in a match against Arsenal that they so easily could have won, and that is a top-four finish and Champions League football next season.

As far as betting is concerned Liverpool are firm favourites to win the match at 3/10 but seeing as the Premierships leading goalscorer Luis Suarez has failed to score in his last four games we are going for the Uruguayan to score anytime at odds of 4/6 with our go to bookmakerBetfair.

Swansea on the other hand is more concerned about Premiership survival after firing Michael Laudrup and installing Gary Monk in the hot seat.

The new manager picked a weakened team that lost in the FA Cup to Everton at the weekend before facing a tiring 0-0 draw against Napoli at home Thursday night in the Europa League.

Goals seem hard to come by for the Welsh team of late with star striker Michu badly missed which means they could not have picked a worse time to visit Anfield and a determined Liverpool who will be going all out to ensure that there are now slip up’s and that they get the maximum three points that is on offer.

For Swansea it will probably be a case of damage limitation with some important relegation six pointer matches to come against Palace, West Brom, Norwich and Hull in the next few weeks.

Mark Lawrenson a football pundit for the BBC writes in his weekly Premiership prediction column that he expects Liverpool to win by a score of 3-0 saying: “Liverpool could not have done much more than they did in their FA Cup defeat by Arsenal last weekend and that result was harsh on them.

“Their pace, movement and passing is just too much for most teams. They can play pretty much any way they like – whether that is on the break or swarming all over teams, which has happened a few times at Anfield.”

As for us here at Soccer Transfers we would go as far as to say 3-0 sounds like a fair result but we would not be surprised to see the Reds score as many as five in what should prove to be a moral boosting win for the Merseyside club.
