Soccerly.com is reporting that comments on twitter are suggesting that Liverpool defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva could be out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.

Liverpool manager brought Lucas on after halftime to try and contain the Aston Villa attack during last Saturdays 2-2 draw at Anfield, and after just 21 minutes on the pitch the Brazilian had to be taken off after a collision with Fabian Delph.

Following the game Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers told reporters: “He just felt a little click in his knee. Hopefully it’s not too serious. We’ll not know for the next 24 to 48 hours.”

@karlton81, a twitter user with almost 25,000 followers and the occasional receiver of inside information on Liverpool tweeted the Brazilian could be out for the rest of the season.

Reports also suggested that Lucas was seen leaving Anfield on crutches which even for something minor would be a precaution, and even if it is not a season long injury to have Lucas out for four to six weeks would be a major blow to a Liverpool side hoping for a top finish and could very well force Rodgers to fork out the money for Rubin Kazan’s Yann M’Vill or Udinese’s Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu both of whom have been linked to Liverpool this transfer window.

We will have more news on Lucas’s condition when it comes in so keep checking back.
