Chelsea captain John Terry, playmaker Eden Hazard and holding midfielder John Mikel Obi are part of a 25-man travelling party to take on Benfica in the Europa League final in Amsterdam on Wednesday.

Both Terry (ankle) and Hazard (hamstring) were withdrawn due to injury during the 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday but joined the squad that will train at the Amsterdam Arena on Tuesday evening.

Terry missed last season’s Champions League final win in Munich through suspension and his injury means he faces further continental disappointment.

David Luiz, Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic have all been preferred to the 32-year-old Terry in central defence in most of Chelsea’s big games by interim manager Rafael Benitez.

Mikel has missed the last four matches with a hip problem while left sided player Ryan Bertrand is also included on the trip despite a recent knee injury.

Frank Lampard is included in the squad, in all likelihood as skipper, after becoming the club’s record goalscorer by netting twice in the win at Villa.

Lampard could be deployed in a deep midfield role alongside Luiz, with Ramires pushed further forward alongside Juan Mata and Oscar.

Oriol Romeu, who has not featured since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in December, also flew out with the Blues, along with Nathan Ake who did not play in Monday night’s FA Youth Cup final second leg.

Senegal forward Demba Ba is cup-tied having played earlier in the competition for Newcastle so Fernando Torres should start again up front.
